Percussive Arts Festival in Bangalore
 

Percussive Arts Centre is organising THALAVADYOTSAV 2010 - its 29th Annual Percussive Arts Festival and Music Conference from July 7 to 11, 2010 at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja premises, K. R. Road, Bangalore 560004.

Several eminent scholars, musicians, musicologists and others will be participating.

The festival will be inaugurated by Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Roddham Narasimha, renowned scientist and Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalor on July 7 evening. Renowned musicologist and Secretary of The Music Academy, Chennai – Dr. Pappu Venugopal Rao is Chief Guest and wil release the souvenir.

The valedictory of the festival will be on July 11, 2010 at 10.00 am.

Dr. B. Jayashree, Member of Parliament, renowned theatre personality, actress and singer and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Mathoor Krishnamurti , renowned scholar and Executive Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore, will be the guests of honour.

They will confer Lifetime Achievement Awards and Youth Achievement Awards.

Lifetime Achievement Awards:- PALGHAT MANI IYER Memorial Award to eminent Konnakol Vidwan TRICHY R. THAYUMANAVAN

PALANI SUBRAMANYA PILLAI Memorial Award to eminent mridanga vidwan A. RAJACHAR

BANGALORE K. VENKATARAM Memorial Award to musician & Ankrang artiste Dr. ANASUYA KULKARNI

SPECIAL AWARD of EXCELLENCE to ace mridangam manufacturer P. V. PARAMESWARAN

Youth Achievement Awards:- H. PUTTACHAR Memorial Award to S. V. GIRIDHAR for mridangam and other percussions CMANA Prize (Carnatic Music Association Of North America) to S. ASHOK, mridangam artiste.

Performances during the festival include K. S. GOPALAKRISHNAN (flute), ANOOR ANANTHAKRISHNA SHARMA (folk ensemble), NEELA RAMAGOPAL (vocal), R. S. RAMAKANTH (vocal), H. K. VENKATARAM, G. RAVIKIRAN, A. ASHWIN (violin–venu-veena), S. V. GIRIDHAR (thalavadya concert) A. RAJACHAR (mridangam solo) and a special ankrang (Indonesian bamboo rattle instrument) recital by Dr. ANASUYA KULKARNI. There will also be a special lecture on ‘The Art of Konnakol’ by Vidwan R THAYUMANAVAN.

Programmes will be held on all days in the evenings from 5.45 pm onwards from July 7 to 10 and at 10 am on July 11, 2010.
