The G. D. Birla Awards instituted by the Birla Academy of Arts & Culture, were presented in New Delhi on 21st June, 2010.

Vice President of India Dr. Hamid Ansari presented the citation and Rs.5 lakhs cheque to senior dancer V. P. Dhananjayan for the dance couple's outstanding contribution in the field of India's cultural heritage.

The chairperson of the Academy Sarala Birla and her husband Basant Kumar Birla were present - the are seen in the picture of the event.

The other awardees who received the honour and similar purse are Zkhumi Vankung for her contribution in the field of service to humanity and Leni Soderberg who received the award on behalf of Dr. Percy Barnevik for his contribution in the field of rural upliftment in Thamizh Nadu through the international organisation Hand in Hand
