The Baratha Natya Festival 2010 held in Malaysia in mid-June was a successful event. The three days (11th June -13th June) were packed with an enthusiastic audience, mainly attended by dance teachers and art lovers.
Urmila Satyanarayanan and her troupe performed very well and the show captivated the audience on June 11 at KL PAC auditorium.
On June 12, the festival was inaugurated by the Mohan Shan, President of Malaysian Hindu Sangam. The lamp was also lighted by Indira Manikam, President of the Malaysia Baratha Natya Sabha and also by the officer from Indian Cultural Center, Savitri.
Dr.Nagappan spoke on 'Religion towards Baratanatyam'. Indira Manikam spoke on 'Barathanatyam in Malaysia' and Urimilla Satyanarayanan on 'Yoga and health towards Barathanatyam'.
This session was followed by dance performances by various dancers. There were two dance dramas which captivated the audience. The 'Dasavataram' by Ratna Uma's students and 'Sivagamiyin Sabadam' by Tanjai Kamala Indira Barathanatya Vidyalaya.
On June 13 morning, Urmilla gave a lecture and performance at the ICC in Kuala Lumpur for dancers and members of the Malaysia Barathanatya Sabha
The Sabha has brought many dancers in Malaysia under one umbrella. This festival was a good platform for these dancers to show their talents. The hosts hope more and more dancers from other parts of the world will participate in the 2011 fest.
