The Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI), in association with Brhan Natyanjali, is organizing a special offering, featuring 1000 dancers at the Brihadeeswara Temple, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu on 25th September 2010, to commemorate the 1000 years of the temple.
To kindle an awareness among dancers about the connection between the temple and the dancers in olden times, ABHAI is organizing the BRHAN-NATYA YAGNA as a grand offering by dancers to show their gratitude to the great king Raja Raja Chola, on the completion of 1000 years of the temple.
The 1000 dancers will dance on the medai (platform) around the Nandi in this campus.
All the dancers will perform a hymn on Vinayaka and verses by Karur Devar. Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, President of ABHAI has set the music and choreographed the items.
On September 25, the event will start at 5.30 in the evening and will be a half-an-hour offering of dance.
ABHAI (Association of BHaratanatyam Artistes of India) is of, By and for the dance community. It was founded in 1987 under the guidance of the late natyacharya K.N. Pakkirisami Pillai.
ABHAI has under a common banner all Bharatanatyam artistes, Gurus, Accompanying Musicians, Technicians, Writers, Costume designers, Make-up artistes and Rasikas.
Renowned artistes like Sudharani Raghupathy, V. P. Dhananjayan, Lakshmi Viswanathan, Adyar Lakshman and M.V. Narasimhachari, have served as President of this organization.
