Natyarangam's 14th annual Bharatanatyam Festival is called 'Vaggeyabharatham' and it will be held at Narada Gana Sabha in Chennai from August 30 to September 3.
Natyarangam is the dance promotion wing of this mainline sabha and every year, its team chooses a theme, invites resource people and dancers and presents a thematic festival that is unique.
In many ways, the fest provides for new productions / items and many dancers have taken these pieces to other venues, thus popularising them on their own.
This year, the team chose the special works of great composers who composed both the sahitya and the music for dance compositions and those who did not do so specifically for Bharatanatyam.
The team invited well known musicians like T. M. Krishna, R. Vedavalli, Rama Ravi and Suguna Varadachari to work alongside and help the dancers on the productions which will go live next week.
There are two dance recitals a day at 6 p.m. and at 7.30 p.m.
The performances are by dancers Alarmel Valli, Urmila Sathyanarayanan, Aiswarya Narayanaswamy, Manjari, T. M. Sridevi, Praveen Kumar, Divya Sivasundar, Balagurunathan and Gayathri and Radha Vairavelavan.
The fest will be inaugurated by Vyjayanthimala Bali. Guru C. K. Balagopal will be honoured on this occasion.
