Senior percussionist T. V. Vasan passed away in New Delhi on Sept.29 noontime while on an official assignment.
He was 61.
Younger brother of vocalist and mridangam senior T. V. Gopalakrishnan (TVG). Vasan was among the top-ranking ghatam artistes and a senior staff artiste at All India Radio, Madras for close to three decades.
In contrast to his elder brother, Vasan was a low-profile person.
He was also part of the well known percussion group called Sruthi Laya which had Karaikudi R. Mani on mridangam, G. Harishankar on kanjira, T. V. Vasan on ghatam, and Srirangam S. Kannan on morsing.
He was a child prodigy and he could play the ghatam right from the age of 5, said his brother TVG from his home in Adyar, south Chennai.
Vasan was a prominent artiste during the December season.
His wife Geetha Vasan, son Girish and daughter Vibha mourn his passing.

His body will be brought to Chennai on Sept.30 and the funeral held thereafter.
