Veena artiste Jayanthi Kumaresh recently released an album.
It features one of those titles that can make you curious, mull over it or let it fly over your head.
Mysterious Duality - Just Me is what the album is called.
The launch was held at a Chennai hall in the presence of N. Murali, President of The Music Academy.
You got a better understanding of the album and the music it promises to engage you with when Jayanthi spoke about it.
She did this at the event and we understood the ideas that went into this work.
The concept of duality in our lives and our philosophy and the mysteriousness that goes with the concept that is not so evident in the run of life are reflected here.
Jayanthi says that she has explored the different layers of the music of the veena as it resonates with the sound of the tambura, the strings of a veena, the bass effect and all that . . . and lets it flow in harmony.
Obviously, this album has been a different journey for the artiste. And the idea seems to have been triggered off by the comment of an agent who said he couldn't make out the sound of the veena when he listened to an album she had sent him which featured different instruments.
Jayanthi plays only on the veena in its different facets to record 4 tracks and then harmonises them, perhaps a first in this genre. And she hopes this sound/music will now be distinct and capture the imagination of music lovers. Now you realsie why ' Just Me' is part of the title!
Earth Sync is the distributor of this album which is on sale now.
