The renovated house of composer Thyagaraja in Thiruvaiyaru, near Thanjavur is to be formally opened on January 21 this year. This house stands on a street close to the samadhi of this saint-composer where the annual aradhana is held.
This year, the aradhana is from January 21 to 25, 2011.
The Sri Thyagaraja Brahmotsava Sabha which has undertaken this project is said to have spent Rs.22 lakhs.
Sabha head G. Rengaswamy Moopanar said that the house was demolished and redone since the original was dilapidated.
But heritage enthusiasts would argue that nobody really cared for this partitioned house and even in renovating it, a more swanky look and feel has been given, removing the heritage charm of this place.
Many rasikas and musicians who travel to the saint's samadhi also stop by at this place to offer musical tributes and meditate. Now, they will have a better space to stop by.
The Sabha has also completed construction of a auditorium near the samadhi campus which can be used to seat 1000 people for concerts, functions and weddings.
