The annual Natyanjali Dance Fest at a temple in Perur, near Coimbatore takes place this weekend. Dance recitals will be held on Sept.20, 21 and 22 in the evenings.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known as the Perur Pateeswarar Temple. His consort is known as Parvathi.
On Day 1, Sept.20, Chennai-based dancer guru Sheela Unnikrishan's troupe present ' Vande Shambum', a theme based dance production. Also on stage is 'Thiruvempavai' produced by Coimbatore-based S. Murali and company of Sri Saraswathy Kalalaya.
On Day 2, Chennai-based Narthaki Nataraj presents a solo dance recital and then, from Bangalore, dancers present Tandava - The Vibrance.
On Day 3, the lead recitals are by the dancer-couple from Chennai, Sheejith Nambiar and Parvathy and as a finale, a dance production by Chennai-based guru Meenakshi Chittaranjan and her sishyas will go on stage.
The hosts of thsi festival make sure that leading dancers from the Coimbatore region in west Tamil Nadu are provided a platform here and where possible, different dance forms are also presented.
The day's recitals start with solo/group performances by talented young dancers.
Though the temple campus, located some 6 kms from the bustling Coimbatore town in Tamil Nadu is small, the temple is ancient and has some exquisite temple architecture. Its pillars depict various manifestations of the lord. It is also a popular destination for devotees.
A spacious yard outside the temple is used as the space for the dance recitals.
This fest is co-ordinated by Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and the local unit of the HR&CE Dept. with support from local sponsors.
