“Nrityasangama”, the annual dance fest, was launched by Chennai-based dancer and guru Sailaja as a tribute to her gurus.
Says Sailaja, "Since its inception, Nrityasangama strives to bring under a national forum, a confluence of various art forms and artistes of genres. The resulting active exchange of ideas and collaboration binds together the spirit, values and tradition of our rich culture and heritage. With the key aspect to cater not only to the art connoisseurs but also to the common man, Nrityasangama has always been a free event."
Sampoorna Bhaaratham, the 11th edition of Nrityasangama, culminates in bringing together the essence of natyam expressed through different school of Banis and Styles.
This fest presents renowned artistes across India.
Nrithyasangama is on Sept. 14th and 15th, 5pm onwards at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai and is open to all.
The artistes performing on the inaugural day are Srikanth and Ashwathy, Sreelatha Vinod, Priya Murle and Vijaya Madhavan, highlighting the different banis of Bharathanatyam.
The following day will feature different Indian classical forms - recitals by Roja Kannan (Bharathanatyam), Ileana Citaristi (Odissi), Gopika Varma (Mohiniyattam), Sailaja (Kuchipudi), Bimbavati Devi (Manipuri) and Ashim Bandhu (Kathak).
