Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated the annual December Season arts festival of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai on Nov.28 at a school campus in Kilpauk in Chennai.
The annual fest of music and dance, which is normally held at the Bhavan’s auditorium on East Mada Street has been moved to the Rajaji Vidyashram school campus because it can be held in the open and allows rasikas to be seated apart, as per current pandemic time regulations.
Vocalist Sudha Ragunathan presented the first concert of this festival which is on till Dec.19.
Concerts are held every evening at 6 p.m. and will end at 8 p.m.
The attendance on the opening evening was small – some 50 people. The fest in Mylapore would have drawn a full house as is the case every year at Bhavans since the best artistes are featured.
Seniors are not keen to attend live concerts because of the fears of pandemic situation.
Also, the chilly weather is discouraging them to stir out. And many Mylaporeans say they cannot make it to Kilpauk which is at quite a distance.
