The annual Navaratri Mantapam Concerts in the Kuthiramalika Palace, East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram began on Sunday and will go on till Oct.7.
Held every evening, on the dot of 6 pm, they end on the dot at 8.30 p.m. and the inaugural concert this season was by Sanjay Subrahmanyan.

Thamarakkad Govindan Namboothiri on Oct.3, T V Gopalakrishnan on Oct.4, Sudha Ragunathan on Oct.5, Prof Parassala Ponnammal on Oct.6 and Prof. K. Venlataramanan.
The space, wholly heritage and the music series with a long history since the time of the Travancore rajahs, is lit with oil lamps, there is medium amplification and a relay through the audio system to rasikas seated outside the mantapam. Those who wish to go into the mantap, must do so before 6 p.m. and can come out only at the end of the concert and men have to be bare chested.
Each evening's concert is dedicated to one raga and all songs are compositions of maharaja Swati Tirunal, himself a wellknown composer.
